So I just received notification that I didn’t achieve the CPAGB award that I’d attempted.
Obviously this is a bit disappointing but as with any judging you take it on the chin and crack on.
The Credit award is based on “good club photography”. Ergo mine isn’t! 🙂 What I don’t quite get is the spread of my scores although at the end of the day photography is very subjective. By way of explanation the PAGB system employs 6 judges. The judges vote on each image based on a yes or no criteria. A yes should therefore in principle receive 24 points (6 x 4) and a no 12 points (6 x 2). As it is subjective in reality you can expect some divergence between the judges. You can also get a 5 if the image is exceptional and would be expected to pass at the next level. There is also a 3 for a very near miss. You need to achieve 200 to achieve the award.
What is particularly disappointing is that none – not one of my images was a unanimous pass. The thin gruel of compensation is that none of them was a resounding failure! That said Nuns Cross Farm came pretty close to bombing. Incidentally this image was accepted into an international salon, go figure.
The bottom line is that my stuff isn’t presently good enough for this award. Why? I’m not sure. Will I re-submit? Probably, but first I’m going to have to have a serious re-appraisal of my pics.
My images entered and their scores are listed below and are viewable in the gallery thumb-nailled above.
Please note one pic – Misty Monorail isn’t presently shown as I’m having trouble with a hard drive. The one of Tinside Lido (Who Left the Tap On?) was a slight edit of this version with the depth gauge cloned out. All were of higher resolution and did not display obvious banding as apparent in Gothic Gates.
